An amnesty has been launched to encourage people to return unused items of ability equipment so that they can be recycled.

Borders residents are being asked to search their homes for any pieces of equipment supplied by the council or NHS Borders which are no longer required, such as:

  • walking aids and frames
  • bathing aids
  • hoists
  • bath lifts
  • height adjustable seating systems
  • shower stools
  • commodes
  • bed rails
  • wheelchairs.

When returned, they will be assessed by the team at SB Cares Community Equipment Service and recycled wherever possible so that they can be reissued.

Items can be dropped off to: Community Equipment Service, Block 5, Unit 1&2, Tweedbank Industrial Estate TD1 3RS; Mondays to Thursdays 9am–5pm and Fridays 9am-3.45pm. Collection can also be arranged.

To find out more, phone 0300 100 1800 (Option 5) or visit the SB Cares website.
